Dear Church Family, I hope you enjoy your 4th of July holiday. Salisbury has a long tradition, sponsored by the Salisbury Association of a noontime gathering at the Town Grove. There is a band concert and a reading of the Declaration of Independence in its entirety, a good reminder of the important principles of our founding which we need to keep ever before us. On the weekend of Independence Day, I generally preach about some topic related to God and nation. Those of you who have been around a while know my fondness for Lincoln. This tough and tender politician was our most theologically astute President., from whom we can learn much. He grew in his understanding of faith throughout his life. He demonstrated not only wise judgment, but also deep empathy and compassion as he dealt with a deeply divided and morally compromised nation. I am looking forward to sharing some of the lessons Lincoln has taught me. The sermon this Sunday is titled, “What We Can Learn from Lincoln. A Theological Reflection.” The texts are Psalm 78 and 2 Corinthians 5: 16-21. We will also be celebrating communion. See you in church, Rich
