Dear Church Family, I have a confession to make—sometimes I’ve been so caught up in some activity I’ve missed my 2 p.m. slot I signed up for in the prayer vigil for Andrea. I catch myself, and quickly make amends . I wonder if that has happened to you? Although I was tempted to beat myself up over my forgetfulness, I’ve decided that’s not helpful, but just another reminder of the human struggle to be faithful disciples. There should be nothing legalistic about a prayer vigil. What is important is the commitment of thirty or so of us to lift up the Bargabos/Godshall family to the love and protection of the sovereign God. As they express regularly, the family is deeply appreciative. Considering this, I thought this might be a good time to reflect on prayer in a sermon. The title this Sunday is “When we Pray” and the focus is on public prayer. The texts are I Samuel 1:9-18 and Luke 11:1-11. I appreciated the support of a number of the Falls Village congregation who were able to be present at the Church of the Wildwood. How good it was that our choir director, Liz Allyn, was the substitute pianist. The old fashioned hymn sing is always fun, and I enjoyed being able to reflect a bit on the role and importance of music in worship. See you in church -- Rich
