Dear Church Family, I hope you have been surviving the “dog days” of summer. The temperature and humidity make it uncomfortable to leave the air conditioning. And even our dog “Happy” doesn’t seem as eager to go for her afternoon walk. The expression “dog days” originates from the ancient belief that the star Sirius, also known as the dog star, contributed to the heat during this period. But in God’s good providence, the heat and rain has done wonders for our garden and we harvested our first tomatoes this week. We also had our first corn on the cob. I could live on a diet of corn, tomatoes and watermelon during this seaon—3 of God’s richest pleasures, in my opinion. So, thank God, even for the “dog days.” Speaking of blessings, Christine Wallace celebrated her 90th birthday recently. Congratulations on that milestone, Christine, and God’s blessings for many more. This Sunday is a communion day. The scriptures are Exodus 4:10-20 and I Corinthians 12:1-7. The sermon is “Discovering Your Gifts.” See you in church. - Rich
